NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT 2019 (SECTION 889)
The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act 2019 (NDAA) is a United States federal law that specifies the budget, expenditures, and policies of the U.S.
Department of Defense. The NDAA 2019 Section 889, prohibits the U.S. government from procuring video and telecommunication equipment from certain Chinese companies and their subsidiaries.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) prohibits the use of equipment
manufactured by a limited set of Chinese manufacturers. Video surveillance or security cameras are explicitly mentioned in the NDAA. We consider this when purchasing any new video equipment components or finished products.
The Companies Prohibited Under NDAA
A prominent fact to note is that the banned companies are from China, normally marked as Made in PRC (People’s Republic of China). The
surveillance and telecommunication equipment, internal components, and chipsets from the following entities and their subsidiaries are prohibited from use in the US.
- Huawei Technologies
- ZTE Corporate
- Hytera Communications Corporation
- Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology
- Dahua Technology
Note that, even a minor component from the banned companies will prevent the usage of the complete equipment.
